| | Mon Jun 8, 2009 First Point Discovers New Large Mineralized Zone at the Decar Nickel Project
|
| | First Point Minerals Corp. (FPX:TSX:V) has discovered a new zone of naturally occurring nickel-iron alloy mineralization, the "Van Target", at its 100% owned Decar property in central BC. This third target is located 3.8 kilometers north of the large Sidney and Baptiste mineralized zones and all three targets are hosted in a serpentinized ultramafic belt.
The Van Target mineralization has been traced in outcrop measuring over 660 by 1,100 meters and is open to the north, west and south. Thirty-six out of 42 rock samples in this area contain visible nickel-iron alloy. The samples assay between 0.16 to 0.25% total nickel with an average of 0.22% total nickel. Selected samples of the disseminated nickel-iron alloy grains have been confirmed by scanning electron microprobe analysis and average 75% nickel, 23% iron and minor cobalt and copper. A large portion of the Van mineralization occupies a small hill and the flanks are partially covered in overburden, mainly glacial alluvium which obscures the extensions of the Van Target mineralization.
Further mapping and sampling to define the extensions of the mineralized zone and collection of large samples for metallurgical testing will be completed in next few weeks on all three target areas which are shown in the power point presentation on the company's web site at: http://www.firstpointminerals.com/i/pdf/Decar_Presentation.pdf.
ACME Analytical Laboratory Ltd., Vancouver, analyzed the rock samples using ICP-MS techniques and Micron Geological Ltd. employed an AMRAY 1810 scanning electron microscope equipped with an EDAX "Genesis" energy dispersive X-ray analyzer to complete microprobe analytical work.
